Hexham Mart held its weekly catalogued sale of 5,634 Store Lambs, which incorporated the November Show and Sale. Many thanks must go to Mr Chris Addison, Greystone House, Penrith, who did a marvellous job of judging. Thanks must also go to Tynedale Insurance for their generous sponsorship of the prize show.

Mr Addison chose the Blackface class winners from Mr GD Herdman, Edlingham Demesne, as his Overall Champions and followed up his decision and bought the champions for £83.50

Reserve Championship went to the Other Continental class winners, a fantastic pen of 20 Dutch Texel x lambs from the Browell family, Quarry House, which went on to realise a staggering £144.

Second prize in this section went to M/s P&EB Robson, Middle Horsleyhope, with a fantastic bare pen of Beltex x lambs that went on to sell for £142. The Robson’s tremendous run of Beltex lambs went on to average an unbelievable £140.50

On the whole lambs would be slightly dearer, staggering!

A lot more, longer keep lambs coming forward and still easily cashed, with the majority of the better lambs exceeding the £82 mark.

With it being show week, a lot more hill lambs forward this week, with plenty of Blackface lambs selling between, £60-£67.

Cheviot lambs in real demand and extremely easily cashed, selling to £78 on three occasions from M/s J Walton & Son, Rock, Alnwick, M/s A&CL Bell, Woodhall, and M/s DA&MA Teasdale, Grindon Hill.

Swaledale lambs - an absolute joy to sell! Swale lambs hitting the dizzy heights of £69.50 for a pen of 30 from M/s K&SM Johnson, Wolf Hills.

With this lift in trade, and the amount of potential purchasers ringside here at Hexham, more lambs are needed to fulfill demand.
