On Friday Hexham & Northern Marts held their first sale of 2019 and offered a small catalogue of 135 head and all classes sold dearer than seen at the end of 2018.

With a full ringside of regular buyers the sale was topped at £1335 for a super red, home bred Limousin cross bullock at 20 months of age from local breeder Willie Patterson, Halton Red House.

Angus cattle peaked at £1250 for a 22-month-old steer by a registered sire from Peter Findlay, Stoop Rigg, Simonburn and heifers topped at £1230 for a shapely Limousin from noted breeders Messrs Burn, Grange Houses with a hefty Charolais from Messrs Milburn, Holling Hill following closely at £1225.

A nice show of quality was evident throughout and buyer interest was keen from the very start of the sale. Increased numbers are expected next week and entries are invited for this sale and also the following week which will see the inaugural ‘New Year Prize Show & Sale’ of store cattle scheduled for the 18th January.
