TOURING theatre company Oddsocks Productions will be bringing its merry band of performers to Hexham once again this month, for their 29th production, Robin Hood and the Revolting Peasants.

The production tells the story of the heroic legend Robin who, along with Marion, forms a rebellion against the gluttonous Sheriff, whose been robbing the people of Nottingham by demanding unreasonable taxes (whilst avoiding paying his own).

Writer and director Andy Barrow promises the production will feature all the inimitable trademark humour, live music, and plenty of audience interaction, which has long been associated with Oddsocks.

“The play has something for everyone,” Andy said. “Action, love, laughter, along with an abundance of mischief.

“We also wanted to create a Robin Hood which speaks to a modern audience, and we felt it was important to incorporate strong female characters, because when it comes to classic tales, there aren’t many that contain inspirational, significant female roles. We feel a duty to send a message to our young audience that women can be just as brave as Robin; and should be just as unafraid to stand up for what they believe in.”

Actor Dominic Gee-Burch, who will be playing Robin himself, said: “Audiences can expect a performance which is exciting, rebellious and unpredictable, a true Oddsocks spin on the production.”

Robin Hood and the Revolting Peasants will run from today until Saturday, December 29 at the Queen’s Hall Theatre, Hexham.

Tickets are available from the Queen’s Hall box office.
