THE National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs is using this week to celebrate its 619 clubs across Britain, and raise awareness of the work the organisation does with young people in rural communities.

In honour of National Young Farmers’ Week, clubs will be hosting events for new members.

Bellingham, one of the smallest clubs in the in the region, is among those striving to remain relevant. Secretary of the club Harriet Robinson said: “It is important for Bellingham to remain open because it gives young people in rural locations an opportunity to socialise.

“Bellingham is a quiet town, and for many of us, the club is our lifeline to the wider farming community.”

Harriet hoped that with a focus on providing members with educational workshops, alongside social outings and events, the club would continue to grow and thrive. The club’s determination to stay open and recruit new members comes after the organisation lost both its Hexhamshire and Ponteland branches due to falling numbers.

Bellingham Young Farmers’ Club will host its new members’ night on Monday, October 15, at the town hall at 7.30pm.
