When talented duo become a trio...

MUSIC in Allendale enthusiasts are musically limbering up for the eagerly awaited September concert at St Cuthbert’s Church.

The season of mellow fruitfulness brings a return of the euphonious Somov/Bojkova duo which is now a threesome – the Somov Piano Trio.

Featuring former Northern Sinfonia lead cello Sasho Somov, his wife, Lucy – who for some years was to be seen on the Northern Sinfonia’s violin desk at concerts – and globe trotting pianist/teacher Vernera Bojkova, the trio will ensure St Cuthbert’s resounds to their sweet music on Saturday, September 6.

It is to be a man and wife duo for the programme’s first item, the Grand Duo for Violin and Cello by Bohuslav Martinu, followed by the Piano Trio No:2 in E minor, Op.67 by that most easy listening of modern composers – Shostakovich.

Next is the well-loved Piano Trio in B flat, Op.97, Beethoven’s “Archduke” named after Archduke Rudolf of Austria, a piano student of the composer and, without being presumptuous, it would be very surprising if Music in Allendale’s well-loved duo did not have some additional item on the music stands before the delights of the refreshment tables in the church hall are enjoyed.

Pre-bookable tickets will be offered at Allendale Co-op, Cogito Books, Hexham, and Forum Books, Corbridge. Tickets will also be available at the church door from 6.45pm for the concert at 7.30pm.
