Andrew Langrish (19), who attended Queen Elizabeth High School, joined the Royal Logistics Corps in April.

He acquitted himself so well during the 14 weeks basic training he has done since then that his own peers nominated him to receive the Soldiers’ Medal.

During their time at the Pirbright Army Training Centre, in Surrey, the squaddies were drilled in the British Army standards of courage, discipline, respect for others, integrity, loyalty and selfless commitment.

An Army spokesman said: “Throughout training, Andrew has developed and demonstrated these core values.

“On the last night of his final exercise, the other members of his troop chose him to receive the Soldiers’ Medal for living by the core values and putting in maximum effort in all he did.”

Andrew is now on his way to Aldershot to complete his trade training, before being posted to one of the regiments of the Royal Logistics Corps.

“I first joined the Territorial Army in 2004 (the 168 Pioneers) and after spending four brilliant years in the TA, I felt this was the right career for me,” he said.

“I would recommend the Army, regular or territorial, to anyone who is thinking about it – I have had a wonderful time here and made some life long friends as well.”
