ONE of the district’s oldest sheep shows will take place for the 161st time tomorrow.

But the annual Alston Agricultural Society Show has never been short on variety.

For the event, at Tyne Willows, also sees farmers bringing along their cattle.

The ever-competitive agricultural classes will be complemented by a bustling industrial tent, and a wide range of entertainment for children and their families.

There will be children’s races and rides, tug of war, and a bouncy castle, as well as various trade stands.

In addition, the Wear and Tees Valley Beagles will be present to add to the attractions.

Committee member and former secretary Jackie Edgar said judging will get under way at 11.30am.

She added: “Preparations are going well and once again we are looking forward to welcoming everyone along for a great day out.”

After five years as secretary, Jackie has handed over the reins to incoming secretary, Carolyn Harrison.
