THE SOUND of the lone star state will roll into Tarset this month as the parish plays host to a Texan trio.

Rockabilly trio The Urban Pioneers are lined up to perform at Tarset Village Hall on Friday, July 22.

The band, who play a mixture of western, swing and rockabilly music, are touring the country throughout July.

Texas-based Urban Pioneers comprises Liz Sloan, on vocals and fiddle, Jared McGovern, on banjo, guitar and vocals, and Martin Sargent on the upright bass.

The band harnesses Texas fiddle, Tennessee banjo, doghouse bass and guitar to ‘pack one heck of a powerful punch’ as they describe it.

Their album, Feast or Famine, encompasses old-fashioned hillbilly music, western, swing, rockabilly and gypsy-style songs.

The trio are touring throughout the summer, travelling through England, Ireland, Sweden and Norway in July and August.

The event on July 22 is hosted by Bellingham All Acoustic Music Club and co-sponsored by Tarset Village Hall.

Doors and the bar will open at 7.30pm and the performances will begin at 8pm.

Local duo Stephen Fry and Pete Stenhouse will kick off the evening of musical entertainment.

Tickets can be bought in advance from New Horizons, Bellingham, or on the door.
