THE HISTORIC Upper Redesdale show will return this weekend for its 127th year.

Established in 1889, the show brings villages together at its location in High Rochester for a showcase of livestock and other rural pursuits.

It hosts a range of activities for all the family, from sheepdog trials to children’s classes.

Show Secretary Karen Gaukrodger said: “There are always a lot of people who come to the show to have a bit of a natter and see what’s going on. It’s a nice way to get people together.

“Last year, we had a few people who had never been before who came out of curiosity then said they would be back this year, so that’s always nice to hear.

“One of the most popular activities is the children’s sports. People like to gather round to watch and children seem to appear out of nowhere to take part!”

This year, the show will host live music for the first time, which Mrs Gaukrodger hopes will draw more people to the show.

It will take place tomorrow and the showground opens at 8.30am when the dog trials begin.

Judging commences at 11am for the livestock classes and cups
will be awarded at around 3.30pm, before an auction at the end of the day.
