LIFE will be put under the microscope and on display during the latest exhibition at Hexham’s Queens Hall.

In Viral Experiments: Selected Works, artist Louise Mackenzie explores the themes of vitality through her research in biotechnology and our relationship with microbiology.

The exhibition will be on display in gallery one and two from Saturday, January 14 to Saturday, March 4.

A UK-based artist, Louise creates installation, sculpture, performance, sound and film works.

Focusing on living material, Louise explores the relationships between medium, sound, image and text to produce unexpected results.

She received the New Graduate Award at Synthesis, Manchester Science Festival, in 2013 and was a finalist in the international Bio Art & Design Awards in 2015.

Her work, The Stars Beneath Our Feet, commissioned for 2015’s Lumiere festival in Durham, has since travelled to Edinburgh and Shanghai.

And on Friday, Louise will be at the Queen’s Hall for a special preview event from 6pm.

The preview is open to all and will feature an ‘in conversation’ event with Queens Hall Arts digital curator Dominic Smith, Dr Simon Woods of Policy, Ethics and Life Sciences at Newcastle University and Prof. Volker Straub, of the institute of genetic medicine at Newcastle University.

The discussion will begin at 6.30pm in the White Room followed by an opportunity to view the exhibition between 7.30pm and 8pm.
