CURIOUS souls venturing into Wallington woods should keep a keen eye out for flickers of fantastic creatures creeping through the trees.

For they may catch sight of powerful wizards, kings and queens, brave giants or even fire-breathing dragons.

A fairytale cast of characters has filled Wallington Hall’s east wood to show woodland wanderers the way.

The Tall Tales Tree Trail has been laid to help visitors learn new facts about the natural history and fascinating story behind the east wood.

For the Trevelyan family, who lived at Wallington until 1958, it was a family tradition to record the history of the woodland around the house in The Book of Trees.

Inspired by the Trevelyan family’s love of woodland, the new trail shares true stories and tall tales about some of the trees along the route.

A series of story panels, the first on the front of the house, will lead walkers towards the walled garden where a willow deer will lead the way to the wood.

The Tall Tales Tree Trail will run until March 26 and is free of charge although normal admission costs will still apply for the venue.
