DOGS jumping through fire is not something you see every day.

But it is exactly what guests to this weekend’s Allendale Agricultural Show can expect as the exciting West Lancs Dog Display Team brings its popular show up north.

The team is bringing up seven car loads of dogs for two shows after being booked as Allendale’s main ring attraction, and a number of thrilling obstacles on the field stand in their way, including the fire tunnel...

The dog displays are just one of the many activities planned to bring crowds of people to Allendale Cricket Club tomorrow, another fun-filled day for the whole family planned.

There will be more four-legged friends on show through the terrier racing competitions and dog shows.

Keeping the traditions of the agricultural show, there are numerous classes in equestrian and cattle, while entries in the sheep pens are rolling in.

Joint show secretary Dani Henderson, whose husband Mark is chairman, said: “We have new classes for rare breeds, so hopefully we get good support for that one.

“We have noticed locally that many people have small holidings or little interest flocks, but we hadn’t catered for them previously.

“The show has got strong entries across the board, and we thought it was important people weren’t left out.”

There is again strong support for the show’s industrial section, regarded as one of the best in the county.

With high entries across the home baking, floral and crafts classes, this year there has been an upturn in support for the countryside classes too.

Tug of war competitions will be held for adults and children, and there are also quoits contests and Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling bouts planned.

Allendale Youth Group will give their yearly performance at the show as they were not able to perform at the May Fair this year.

Dani said: “It’s just a great family day out and we have tried our best to get something for everybody, with a mixture of free things and plenty to keep the children entertained.”
