NEXT month’s Corbridge Chamber Music Festival will mark the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare.

In the beautiful setting of St. Andrew’s Church, the festival between August 12 and 14, will feature a concert of music inspired by the Bard, including The Ghost Trio by Beethoven.

Other highlights of the three-day programme are the Schubert Octet , Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time and the world premiere of Trio no.2 Eidfjord by Simon Rowland Jones.

Besides the three evening concerts, there is a morning of French music – preceded by coffee and croissants – a master-class for talented young pianists and a festival service in the church on Sunday morning, when the choir will be accompanied by the festival strings in Mozart’s Missa Brevis in F , K192 and his glorious Laudate Dominum .

The Gould Piano Trio (Lucy Gould on violin, Alice Neary on cello, and Benjamin Frith on piano) plus Robert Plane on clarinet are once again joined by a star-studded cast of fellow musicians.

Tickets are available from Forum Books, in Corbridge, or the Queen’s Hall box office, in Hexham.
