TYNEDALE U16’s unbeaten run finally came to an end, denying them silverware in the process.

The Corbridge teenagers hadn’t been beaten in any of their 18 encounters this season, but they were unable to stretch it to 19 as they faced Alnwick in the Northumberland County Plate final.

They started on fire though and went 10 points clear, scrum half Ruaridh MacMillan and fly half Tom Robson getting the scoreboard ticking with early tries.

However, Alnwick came back strongly with two converted tries, one an interception from a Tynedale attack. They went into the break 19-10 ahead after a third try.

Tynedale reduced the deficit to four points after the restart, a great try out wide from second row Desmond Weich putting them within touching distance of their opponents.

However, Alnwick applied relentless pressure to which Tyne had no answers to and an error strewn half was capitalised on. To make matters worse for the Corbridge side, they were reduced to 14 men when prop Harry Renwick was shown a yellow card.
