ALNWICK were left shellshocked as Tynedale U15 smashed their way into the semi-finals of the Northumberland Cup.

While the hosts were favourite to progress, it was the teenagers from Corbridge who came to the fore and earned a fantastic 26-17 victory.

Using the wind advantage to good effect, they took the lead after just minutes when some slick, short passes put Will Roberts clear for an unconverted try.

Soon after, Lewis Spark powered over for a second try and the successful conversion from Tom Robson, who judged the weather perfectly, put Tyne 12-0 ahead.

Alnwick responded with an unconverted try, but Tynedale went into the break 19-5 ahead as Seth Kippax-Jones cut inside two defenders to score which was well converted by Robson from a tricky angle.

It was the hosts‘ turn to use the gales to their favour after the break and had reduced arrears to nine points five minutes in when they got their second try, again unconverted.

Nerves started to creep in but they were laid to rest 15 minutes in when Roberts ran in for another great score following some scrappy play, Robson adding the two points with another difficult kick to take the score to 26-10.

Alnwick secured a converted try with just three minutes remaining but it was too little, too late as Tynedale ran out worthy winners, captain Jack Peter leading by example with a tremendous performance throughout as his side booked the final four date with Whitley Bay Rockcliff.

Tynedale Colts enjoyed a successful trip away too as they returned from Kelso Harlequins with a 12-0 triumph in the Semi-Junior Border League.

Meanwhile, Tynedale will play host to between 500 and 600 teenagers from far and wide on Sunday, April 17.

Teams from Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham, North Yorkshire and Scotland will head to Corbridge for the friendly festival aimed at children at U10 to U12 level. The festival will get under way at 10am.
