For they won all four of their games as they travelled to Penrith for a tournament which attracted eight teams in total, young rugby players coming from across Cumbria and Newcastle to play.
It was a first taste of sevens action for the majority of the Tyne team, and the first time the squad of 10 had played the reduced form together.
They were a little apprehensive at first during their opening game with Novos, but they spread their line well and started to shine in the second half as they recorded a 25-15 victory.
This was followed by a 30-5 thumping of Wensleydale and then a similarly impressive success over Penrith as they again ran in 30 points to the hosts’ 10.
They finished a successful day in style with a fantastic 50-5 success over Cockermouth, with all members of the squad getting on the scoresheet throughout the day.
