BOOKING their place in the county cup final saw Tynedale U16 better England's unprecedented unbeaten run.

For while England go looking for 18 games without defeat in Saturday's Calcutta Cup match-up with Scotland, Tynedale are aiming for 19 on the bounce should they successfully manage to lift the trophy.

The Corbridge teenagers head into Sunday's final on the back of an 18-game spell, overcoming hosts Blyth 55-12 after dominating the semi-final.

They started like a house on fire and were four tries to the good before half time as Josh Keller, James Anderson, Walid Kurdi and Jack Peter all crossing the line.

With Tom Robson kicking three of the four conversion attempts, Tyne looked home and dry at 26-0 up.

Unusually, Tynedale had given away a large number of penalties which saw the referee warn captain Sam Harrison that a yellow card would be coming his side's way if they didn't sort their discipline out.

They duly obliged and, after conceding an early score, they went on to run in a further five tries as Harrison claimed two, and Anderson, Peter and Sean Abrams got one each.

Peter and Harrison converted their own tries, and Blyth produced a consolation try at the death to reach double figures.
