ANOTHER barnstorming performance saw Tynedale round off their away programme with an eight-try romp against a strong Stourbridge outfit.

Away wins over the last few years have been as scarce as smiles in an episode of Eastenders , but this was Tynedale’s eighth success on the road to lift them to fifth in National League Division Two (North).

It’s a far cry from last season, when the last game arrived with Tynedale still threatened with relegation, but the youthful exuberance of the backs, and the power of the forwards, has been moulded by coach Scott Lawson into a real force to the reckoned with this season.

The boys from the Black Country had won at Corbridge at Christmas, but Tynedale were always in the box seat this time round as they played some of their best rugby of the season.

There were one or two notable absentees, with free-scoring winger Oli Walker, the exciting Rob Parker and redoubtable second row Graeme Dunn all missing, but Tynedale had able replacements in the versatile Jonny Mock and Aedon Maloney on the wings, and the towering Harry Snowdon at lock.

Tynedale threw the ball around with relish, and seven of their eight tries were scored by the backs, two of them by soon-to-be-wed Jack Harrison.

It was apparent that Tynedale were up for this one as early as the second minute, when livewire scrum half and skipper Matty Outson skipped through on the narrow side for a try, superbly converted from the touchline by the ever reliable Ash Smith.

Stourbridge were stung into action by the early reversal, and they piled on the pressure, missing a penalty chance before scrum half Ben Tibbetts successfully chased a kick ahead to score in the corner, although the kick at goal failed. Tynedale soon stretched away again though, when a clever kick ahead saw Harrison gallop clear to touch down, although the kick was this time unsuccessful.

Full back James Spencer pounced on a poor Stourbridge line-out throw to grab Tynedale’s third try, Smith’s conversion taking the score to 19-5.

Stourbridge hit back just before half time when inside centre James Otutaha took a crash ball from a line-out to charge over, with fly half Luke White converting to make it 19-12 at the break.

The cut and thrust continued after the break, with a slick pass from fly half Dan Taylor sending in Harrison for his second, and the bonus point, try.

Stour came back and flanker Nigel Mukarati powered his way over for replacement Chris Scott to add the extras for 26-19.

That was as good as it got for home team as Tynedale clicked through the gears towards the half century.

Replacement hooker Louis Frankland forced his way over on 57 minutes, before Moloney celebrated his return to the side by making it 40-19 after racing clear on the overlap, Smith converting both tries.

The hosts responded with their own bonus point try when number eight Ciaran Moore broke from the base of a scrum, but Tynedale were far from finished with replacement Jack Outson pulling off a neat interception try, before an audacious chip and catch by Smith over the head of a defender gave him a converted try with the last move of the match.

Tynedale round off the season tomorrow when third placed Leicester Lions are the visitors for a game which kicks off at 3pm.
