A STORMING second half performance saw Corbridge Centurions breeze into the next round of the Candy Cup.

After a close first half saw them lead Bishop Auckland by just three points, the side blending experience with youth, the Corbridge side ran away with it in the end.

Tynedale had taken the lead early into the contest following controlled scrummages, number eight Ed Cawthorn feeding Will Massey to go ounder the posts.

Cawthorn again picked up from the scrum before going over himself from 20 metres, with John Clarkson converting. Bishop’s strong forwards twice drove over from close range for converted tries, but Centurions finished the half 17-14 ahead as Massey was on hand to run in a quick tap penalty in between their tires.

The hosts cranked up the pressure after the break and Jake Sloan got the ball rolling as he powered over from 40 metres following good handling from Rory Craney and Ben Blackburn.

Charlie Richards then made good progress to feed Massey for his hat-trick, before Jack Robson started a fine move, continued by Nathan Washington and Clarkson, and finished well by Ewan Murrell for a wonderful team try.

Bishop responded with a try, but Murrell showed another fine turn of pace to go under the posts. A storming run from Joe Johnson then allowed Massey to score a fourth, before Andy McGrath took the ball from half way to chip and touch down wide out.

Centurions added to their tally with Clarkson going over, before Cawthorn caught the restart ball and ran in unopposed from his own half for a stunning try just before the end.
