TYNEDALE Raiders took 20 minutes to warm up but, once they did, they motored their way to a convincing victory over Middlesbrough Wasps.

The visitors started the Candy League fixture at Corbridge brightly with their bulky set of players making life difficult for Tynedale in the early stages, particularly at the breakdown.

However, once Tyne found their stride, they ran riot and recorded nine tries to the Wasps’ nil.

The in-form Edd Cawthorne got the ball rolling following a great team move from a scrum as he scored just wide of the posts.

Tynedale kept the pressure up and Nathan Washington profited from a break up the wing, the hosts recycling the ball well from a line-out.

Washington got his second soon after in almost identical circumstances, but he had an outrageous dummy from Richie Gledson to thank for getting the move going as he took two players out of the game.

Enjoying a great game on the wing, Tom McCullough got the home side’s fourth try of the game and the advantage was at 25 points at the break with Callum Young broke through from full back to score out wide.

The Raiders refused to take their foot of the gas, Jamie Dixon and Joe Northwood running hard through the middle of the park and Stu Johnson marking his return from a wrist injury with an eye-catching display.

Cawthorne got his second of the afternoon when he finished off another good move, with Callum Morrell getting in on the action after some good interlinking with his teammates.

Dixon then got the try he had worked so hard for when hard running saw him break through the middle and score directly under the posts.

Johnson rounded the scoring off as he was feed the ball after No. 8 Cawthorne picked the ball up from a scrum, the successful conversion from Dixon taking the final score to 57-0.

The game was ended a few minutes early with Middlesbrough down to 13 men due to injury, but Tynedale go into this weekend’s game with Blaydon Georgians full of confidence.

The game at Tynedale Park, at 2.15pm, has extra meaning than normal as it will count as a double header for the Candy League and Northern Second Team League.
