THREE quick tries at the beginning of the second half saw Tynedale Raiders continue their 100 per cent start to the season.

They survived a late fightback from visitors Wharfedale Foresters to record the narrow 27-26 victory in the Northern Second Teams League, building on their previous two triumphs already this season.

It was a scorching display for the opening 25 minutes of the second period which ultimately saw them to victory, Rory Dixon scoring two of the three quickfire tries to put them ahead at 27-12.

The game was a close fought one and it was pretty tight for the large part, with Wharfedale’s big, physical bunch dominating the set pieces, especially in the scrum.

But Tynedale battled hard throughout and they took a 5-0 lead when scrum half Jack Outson sniped over from five metres out, finishing off a great move by the hosts as they built a lot of pressure.

The game swung back and forth, but Wharfedale took advantage of the extra man when Ed Cawthorn was yellow carded for slapping the ball down in the interception.

With Wharfedale leading 12-10 at the break, the Raiders roared into action at the start of the second half as Cawthorn returned to action and they quickly established a 15 point lead.

They dominated but were pegged back in the remaining 10 minutes, the away side running in two converted tries to close the gap to just one point.

However, Tynedale weren’t put under much pressure and were able to see the game out.
