THEY may be without a win this season, but Prudhoe and Stocksfield hold the honour of being the first team to score points against a recharged Richmondshire.

The visitors hadn’t conceded in their previous three games while running in 172 points, but that came to an end with an unconverted try for P&S receiving the loudest cheer of the day!

It was a bright spot in a tough day for Prudhoe as they ended up losing 47-5 as they were unable to halt the Richmondshire revolution, the team scoring an average of 50 plus points this season under the leadership of new coach Dan Wilson. They started in the same vein, going 21-0 ahead within the opening 20 minutes against a shell shocked home side.

It was a wake up call for Prudhoe who came back strong and thundered into tackles, and the mauls and contests were well contested as the half ended with no further score.

P&S were able to turn to the bench this week with BJ Neill, Matt Jefferson and Jonathon Nevin introduced to proceedings, and Richmondshire’s next try was against the play when they picked up a loose ball and benefited from what seemed a forward pass.

The hosts’ moment of glory came following a move down the right wing, a ball ricocheting into the hands of Nevin who burst through to finally break the visitors’ resolve at the fourth time of asking.

The try only forced Richmondshire to lash out and they ran in a further three tries in the final 10 minutes to take the final score to 47-5.

Knowing they won’t face such formidable opposition each week, P&S will be buoyed by their performance with some particularly stand-out displays.

Chris Patterson impressed, Luke Masters tackled well on several occasions, Jefferson rolled back the years to play constantly on the edge of the gain line, Mark Russell made several good carries and Dan Whiley reminded people it is not just a cricket ball he can catch.

With strong numbers now turning up following the end of the cricket season, Prudhoe head to Hartlepool BBOB with confidence.
