THE narrowest of margins denied Tynedale U15 a second successive Northumberland County Plate.

A great fight back saw them to within a point as Jack Donaldson touched down in the final moments of the game, but the youngster’s conversion attempt fell agonisingly short to ensure the trophy belonged to Northern.

Their opponents were out looking for revenge after being eliminated by Tynedale in the semi-finals last year, and they were looking good value for their money in a dominant first half.

Unusually for the Corbridge side, they had a shaky start and seemed to lack the confident, flowing rugby that they had become accustomed to. Some uncharacteristic mistakes and questionable decision making allowed Northern to assume a first half lead.

Things improved after the break as the Tynedale teenagers regained their composure and began to fight back, led by their rampaging forwards.

They were back in it when Harry Armstrong made good ground before offloading to Will Allcock, who cleverly chipped the ball over the head of an opponent to run on and finish a great move, converted by Donaldson.

In the final minute, the ball was shipped out wide to Donaldson in the final minute and he scored out wide. With the outcome of the game hanging on the tricky kick, Donaldson was inches away from retaining the title for the blue and whites.
