THE all-round talent of young sportsman Will Roberts is taking him places.

The Hexham teenager, a Year 11 pupil at the town’s Queen Elizabeth High School, is excelling at rugby, football, cricket and athletics.

The captain of Tynedale U16 is hoping for a career in rugby as he was one of five local players signed up for Newcastle Falcons’ academy, and he was recently invited to a North of England training camp at Harrogate.

The other Tynedale teenagers making their mark at the Kingston Park academy are Will Shearer, Walid Kurdi, Oscar Caudle and Jack Peter.

But it is not just on the wing of a rugby pitch that Will is impressing on, the 15-year-old striker selected for the Northumberland Schools football team as he continues to impress leading the line for QEHS.

And that is not to mention his ability on the running track or cricket pitch, the youngster crowned county champion at 100 metres!

Will said: “Rugby is definitely the sport I want to concentrate on as I enjoy it a lot more than the others, and I would definitely say I’m better at it than I am at football.

“The Falcons encourage us to play as many sports as possible until we are fully developed, so I’ll keep doing all sports at a high level but the dream would be to get a professional contract with the Falcons.”
