A MISSED conversion prevented Prudhoe and Stocksfield throwing away a 19 point advantage.

Up 19-0 at the break in their double header with Seaham, they were rocked by their resurgent visitors who matched the home side’s try count - but the missed kick proved vital as P&S clinched the eight points in Durham and Northumberland III.

With just one point between the teams prior to kick off, it was Prudhoe who settled into their stride after a nervy start as Michael Henderson forced his way through a crowd. The try was converted by Luke Masters, taking over kicking duties from the injured Steven Henderson.

With the wind in their sails, Prudhoe came straight back upfield and Gerry Robinson darted over the line for a quick fire second, again converted by Masters.

His next successful kick proved crucial as Prudhoe made it three tries in 12 minutes, Chris Patterson exploiting a gap from a five metre scrum to make it 19-0.

The hosts were well in control with Mark Russell starring, and the Irish duo of Robinson and Dave Henry dominating the breakdowns and Andy Marsh prominent throughout.

Their only low point of the first half was the yellow card brandished to Will Foster for a high tackle.

It was a completely different story after the break, though, and Seaham pushed them back reducing the lead to seven points with two quick tries with 25 minutes left to play.

A nervy 10 ensured with a third Seaham try, but Prudhoe felt let off the hook as the conversion drifted wide to keep their noses in front by just two points.

But the home side dug in deep to see out the game, despite Henry missing the last five minutes after judging to have deliberately knocked on.
