CONCEDING three tries in the opening six minutes, Tynedale Colts looked dead and buried in the early exchanges of their Northumberland 7s final with Berwick.

Having already lost to the same opposition in the group stages, the U18 side from Corbridge trailed 15-0 and the tired legs seemed unlikely to recover.

However, they rallied and took the game to their Border rivals before clinching the trophy with a fantastic 27-15 victory.

While the other teams took squads of 12 to Percy Park, Tyne’s eight man squad of captain Ewan Morrell, Robbie Hewitt, James Sample, Charlie Richards, Cam Grant, Alex Dryden, Sam Elliot and James Doody summoned up their inner strength to leave with the silverware.

Tynedale started their campaign with a quick fire double in Pool A, defeating Morpeth 35-5 and then making light work of hosts Percy Park 21-5.

Berwick were up next and ran in three early tries on their way to a convincing 33-12 triumph.

Despite the loss, they topped the group on conversions made after all teams had equal points and tries scored!

Tynedale faced Percy Park B in the semi-finals and booked a final showdown with Berwick with a fantastic 29-10 success.

Trailing by three unconverted tries, the Colts reduced the arrears by 12 points before the break and then ran in three second half tries as they turned the screw.
