CORBRIDGE Centurions started the season with an accomplished performance from a group of players thrown together.

The team was made up of Tynedale first team players, veterans, last year's Colts, Border Park guests, new arrivals and club stalwarts, but they played with a style and flair which suggested they trained together regularly as they blew Whitley Bay Rockcliff II 47-7.

Adam Binks was nominated captain when the referee demanded someone attend the coin toss, and it proved an inspired choice as he led his mixed troops with verve and enthusiasm.

Newcomer Alex Cardwell showed some nice touches on the wing and Jake Sloan was a rock in defence, while the centre pairing of forwards Ben Haigh and Mark Smailes were solid and dangerous in possession when released by the classy half-back pairing of James Davidson and Jake Richards.

Ethan Way led the way with two tries on the afternoon, with Ben Haigh, Jake Richards, Joe Anderson, Adam Binks and Karl Main also scoring. James Davidson added six conversions.

The team was made up of Jake Sloan, Andy Purvis, Mark Smailes, Ben Haigh, Alex Cardwell, Jake Richards, James Davidson, Ethan Way, Adam Binks, Joe Anderson, Shaun Young, Dave Nicholls, Owen Loughhead, Karl Main, Rory Craney, and replacements Adam Telfer and Stu Johson.
