FLY half Cam Grant kept his cool to send home a late penalty which booked Tynedale Colts' place in the Border Bowl final.

Trailing by just two points with just three minutes remaining, the teenager showed ice cool nerves as he stuck his kick from just inside the Peebles Colts' 10-yard line straight through the posts.

The kick put Tynedale ahead by the narrowest of margins, and they were able to see out the game to secure a place in the final on March 25.

Tyne came racing out the traps after making the trip north, and they were camped out in their hosts' half for the opening 20 minutes. However, they were unable to punch a hole in the strong Peebles defence.

They kept the pressure on but Peebles managed to steal the ball and head upfield, before being stopped right on the line. The hosts got the ball away quickly, though, and stepped over for the game's opening try.

Tynedale then had to see off a period of pressure from the hosts as they won four penalties, two of them successfully sent over to extend the lead to 11-0.

There was a quick response from the hosts, though, and the pressure from their forwards saw Jack Klein go over, converted by Grant.

After a much-needed intake of water, Tynedale again started brightly as the teams came out after the restart. However, Peebles ran in a second try to take their lead to 16-7.

Tyne dug in deep and the forwards again stared their march up the pitch, taking in phase after phase before the ball popped up for Joe Johnson to break and step inside two players for his side's second try.

Grant again converted to take the deficit to just two points, and they were presented with a great chance to clinch the victory when they were awarded a penalty in front of the posts.

They opted for goal and, after a drink and a few deep breaths, Grant produced the match-winning kick which sees Tynedale look to claim the bowl at the end of the month.

The winning squad consisted captain Jack Robson, Jack Klein, Ollie Murrell, James Sample, Ethan Way, Sam Collins, Joe Johnson, Charlie Richards, John Clarkson, Joe Hughes, Zac Pearce, Finn McKendrick, Cam Grant, Adam Shane, Jack Trewhitt, Charlie Rutherford, Stu O'Neill and Owen Orrick.
