RUGBY: TYNEDALE U15 got over the defeat in their first county cup final by lifting the Newcastle Falcons Sevens trophy.

With the club in a position to enter two teams, it was their Raiders team of captain Jack Peter, Rhys Howells, Tom Robson, Will Roberts, Seth Kippax-Jones, Matty Anderson, Walid Kurdi, Sam Harrison, Oscar Caudle and Robert Telfer which were presented the trophy in front of more than 5,500 rugby fans at the Falcons’ final home game of the season.

The format of the day saw two groups of five, the winners of both meeting in the final. The Raiders started with a 7-2 win over Bury St Edmunds, and this was followed by victories over Egremont (7-3), Northern II (5-2) and Keswick (7-0) to set up a final versus Westoe.

Tynedale didn’t give their opponents a sniff as four tries from the skipper helped them to a whopping 6-0 win.

It made up for the disappointment of just missing out in their county cup final appearance, going down 15-12 to Northern despite a spirited comeback.

Trailing 10-0, they were back in it in the second half as Tom Robson converted Robert Telfer’s try.

Northern extend their lead by five but were again pegged back to three points through a Will Roberts try, but it ended 15-12 to Northern as Tyne’s attacks just fell short.
