U10s' season ends in style

The Darlington Rugby Festival 2008 saw Tynedale U10s’ season close in style as festival champions.

This event held each May Bank Holiday weekend can cause clashes with numerous other family events, as was the case this year with a number of key players missing, but the squad took on their roles with some ease.

With only four participating sides, games were played at 10 minute each way giving the children the maximum playing time.

Darlington were the first opponents, and after a close first half, Tynedale's fitness and huge forward power generated by Edward Williams, Michael Murphy and Jack Bramwell – who would not look out of place in the U13s –saw a debut hat trick of tries for Jack in a 5-1 victory

Percy Park are much more formidable opponents and while the forwards exchanged various views, the backs were in their stride with William Dagg taking charge both making and scoring tries.

The final sore of 6-1 reflected the dominance.

Finally Westoe, strong opponents earlier in the season, were overwhelmed with the team, particularly Joe Clark and Nathan Moore, playing with utter confidence, and Ottilie Stephenson scoring a try after a series of phases gaining the loudest cheers of the day.

The game was finally won with the score reaching 6-0.

The day was a delight not because of any victory but the attitude of the team, proud of each other and uninterested in personal glories and a fitting way to end a great season.
