KICKBOXING brothers have been sweeping the board in national tournaments.

Callum (13) and Owen Beeckmans (10), of Prudhoe, returned from this weekend’s Scottish International Kickboxing Championships with gold and silver respectively in the eight to 17-years-old category.

And it comes at a fruitful time for the youngsters, who both attended the town’s Highfield Middle School last year, after gaining numerous gold medals between them in the past few months.

Success has come in the Welsh International, Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, South East of England and North-East tournaments, with the Irish International bout coming up shortly.

The pair were promising prospects in motocross until they turned to kickboxing following a family illness.

And their progress since joining Crawcrook-based Aiki Kickboxing has been remarkable.

Father Mark said: “They have got about 10 trophies and numerous gold, silver and bronze medals in kickboxing this year, and every time they go out they seem to be bringing back gold medals!

“They are like two different lads since they started kickboxing, and the discipline has changed them so much and they are so focused now.”
