AFTER 65 years of trying, a long serving member of Stocksfield Golf Club finally scored an ace.
Vin Welch, the father of actress Denise, hit his first hole in one, aged 80, on the 18th at his local course.
He was understandably delighted when he and his mates watched the ball roll in the hole.
"I don't play as much now as, when I hit the big 80, I cant' hit the ball as far as I used to, but I hit a cracking shot then!
"I have been trying to get one ever since I started when I was 15, and it was just astonishing.
"It bounced twice just before the green and just rolled towards the hole, and my pal said that it was going in. I didn't believe him and said 'I wish', but then it dropped and I just started to jump around like the professionals do!"
