TWO teenage kickboxers from Prudhoe returned to the Tyne Valley with trophies after unanimous decisions.

Owen Richardson and Callum Beeckmans, both members of Crawcrook-based Aiki Kickboxing, impressed during their respective fights as part of the Cyclone 5 show in Essex at the weekend.

It was Owen's first ring fight since March after suffering from injury and, while showing some signs of rustiness, he needed to be in good nick as he came up against Finlay Jacks with a record of 25 wins and four defeats.

He dived into the bout, though, and took all three of his rounds for the unanimous decision.

It was a great return as he looks to return to full fitness ahead of a British title fight with Tyler Sharp in November, with his fight manager at Aiki, Ross Holliday, looking to fit another fight in between.

Callum continued his good form as he came up against a fighter two years his junior, making his debut in the ring.

Despite being new to competitive fighting, his opponent performed admirably as Callum started slow even if he took the opening round.

He found his stride at the beginning of the second round, and he breezed to take the other two for another unanimous verdict.

Callum will next be in action in Cleveland on September 23.

Ross said: "Both lads made weight and were 0.2kg under, which is always a relief to start with!

"But they were both great on the night and they listened to exactly what we were saying, and they came through some tough fights.

"Owen's fitness was a bit down after not fighting for a few months through injury, and he wasn't as sharp as usual. We'll work on finding his range, though, and he looks good ahead of his title fight.

"After the weekend, we're quite happy and both lads are beaming and full of confidence, so that is good for them going into their next fights."
