IT was a case of ‘after the Lord Mayor’s Show’ for Tynedale.

For after a high scoring victory which eased their relegation worries, they slumped to a woeful 6-1 defeat to high flying Stokesley following a lacklustre performance.

There weren’t many positives to take from the long trip to Teesside, but junior goalkeeper Paddy Lally again impressed with a bright display while captain James Rainford scored his first of the campaign.

Tynedale started well and controlled the majority of possession, and their calm play in midfield had them looking comfortable.

This good start had their hosts rattled, and a number of cards were dished out for the indisciplined Stokesley side.

The visitors looked to take advantage when Tom Cant won a short corner, but they were unable to force the ball home and find the all-important opener.

As the half went on, Stokesley grew into the game and hit the Tyne defence at pace as they forced Lally, who looked confident throughout, into several smart saves.

But the teenager was unable to keep out the hosts’ first goal of the afternoon, deflecting a short corner high into the Tynedale net after a period of sustained pressure.

Tynedale battled back and asked questions of their hosts, but the half ended with Stokesley’s noses just in front.

But the second half was disastrous for the Hexham side as they leaked five goals in a frustratingly abstract display.

Straight from the whistle, Stokesley capitalised on a series of mistakes from the Tynedale back line and they earned an early short corner which hit off a Tyne stick and flew into the bottom corner.

A catalogue of individual errors saw the goals continue to rain down, with sloppy passing and dribbling, and loose marking, allowing Stokesley to score with ease.

Tynedale’s defence was heavily outnumbered throughout, and the scoreline could have been higher had it not been for the fantastic performance from young Lally keeping goal.

The game did end on a positive note, though, with Rainford hitting a thunderous strike from the top of the circle for a mere consolation.

Tynedale will need a marked improvement ahead of Saturday’s trip to North East Hockey Premier League leaders Marton Furness.

Tynedale II continued their push towards promotion with a dominant, single goal victory at Jesmond Parish Church III.

While they had key players missing, they showed their strength in depth as they controlled the game throughout despite the slender winning margin.

Tynedale could have put the game to bed early in the game, but Jesmond’s goalkeeper kept them at bay with some fantastic saves.

However, the breakthrough did come on 15 minutes when Matty Davey celebrated his first senior goal for the club.

Tyne had goalkeeper Alex Tortice to thank for securing the three points as he made a number of saves late on, denying JPC who were determined to spoil the party.

Tynedale III battled to a 1-1 draw with Jesmond’s fourth team, denied all three points as their opponents secured a late equaliser from the penalty spot.

Ant Armstrong scored Tynedale’s goal in an impressive performance, but Jesmond clinched a point at the death despite goalkeeper Robson almost saving the crucial penalty.
