TYNEDALE’S first team gave their survival hopes a boost by moving out of the bottom two in the North East Premier League.

A fantastic all-round display saw them defeat bottom club Marton Furness II 4-1, helping them leapfrog Newcastle University III and clawing back some points on the pack in the middle of the table in the process.

After a feisty start, Tynedale made the most of their dominance by producing the breakthrough early on.

A quick interchange of passes between Sam Myers and Jonny Oakley saw the latter fouled, and the short corner was drag flicked by Ed Crawford and the ball flew into the top corner to leave the opposition keeper helpless.

Tynedale remained on the front foot and were exploiting the Marton right hand side, Tom Cant and Oakley making good runs and crosses to put their rivals under intense pressure.

The team’s leading goalscorer Tom Scott had a couple of good chances to add to his tally for the season but was guilty of missing the target, while he also forced a number of good saves from the Furness stopper.

The teenagers did get his sixth goal of the season two minutes before half time, a counter attack seeing Oakley’s shot kept out before he swept the ball on his reverse to the back post where poacher Scott was perfectly placed to tap home the second goal of the afternoon.

Knowing a third goal would all but kill the game though, they raced out of the traps after the break and were three goals to the good within minutes.

A slick move between Henry Thompson and Porter led to the former sweeping the ball on his reverse into the bottom corner.

The fourth goal was just around the corner when a long run by Cant resulted in him winning a short corner, this time slipped to Crawford who capped a man of the match display by flicking the ball into the top corner.

With the result all but wrapped up, the game became scrappy in the final 15 minutes and Furness were able to form a number of attacks with Tynedale taking their foot off the gas.

Tyne goalkeeper Mark Blatherwick kept Marton out time and time again, but he was eventually beaten with Furness securing a consolation courtesy of an unstoppable reverse stick shot.

Tynedale II enjoyed a good victory too as they battled their way to a 2-1 success at Sunderland Broom II.

They got off to a flying start when junior Connor Stith found the back of the net with a reverse stick into the top corner. The situation improved soon after as they extended their lead as a promising run down the right by Oliver Hewitt was finished off by the grateful Mark Friswell.

Sunderland pressed hard in the second half and were awarded a penalty stroke when a defensive mistake from Alex Proud led to him throwing his stick. The Sunderland forward found a way past teenage goalkeeper Paddy Lally who was again enjoying a great game.

Sunderland put Tynedale under a lot of pressure in the final 20 minutes but, with captain John Robson and Russell Hewitt starring, they hung on to the victory.
