TYNEDALE Ladies returned to action in style after being frozen off two weeks in a row, sharing eight goals in a thriller with Morpeth III.

With both teams throwing their hats into the ring for the Northumberland B League title, a close game was expected but the new, and young, side from Morpeth took advantage of Tynedale’s rustiness to race into a two goal lead.

The second goal spurred Tyne into action and some fluent play with some accurate passing saw them start to create, Becca Glaister reducing the arrears as she drove into the shooting circle and sent a great shot past the home goalkeeper.

The equaliser came just before the break when Sarah Martindale slipped in player of the match Esme Gallagher, and the junior captain shot powerfully into the net.

Morpeth regained the lead after the break, but Tynedale again bounced back with Vicky Foster forcing the ball home after receiving a pass from Alison Westworth. The game swung from end-to-end and it was Morpeth who again pushed ahead as they made their pressure count following five penalty corners.

Yet Tynedale weren’t finished there and made it 4-4 in the final minutes, a determined Sophie Mitchell pouncing on a great pass from Glaister to slot the ball home to bring a great game to a fitting end.
