THOUSANDS of places at the hugely popular Mini Great North Run (GNR) have sold out - seven months before the event.
Such is the growing interest in running among young people that the run, the younger brother of both the GNR and Junior GNR aimed at children aged between three and eight, has reached its capacity in record time.
Along with participants in the 4km junior run for children between nine and 16 years, there will be 6,500 youngsters taking in parts of the Great North CityGames track on Saturday, September 10, a day earlier than the senior GNR celebrations. The route for minis is 1.5km.
Great Run communications director David Hart said: “It’s fantastic news that the Mini GNR has once again reached capacity.
“These young runners are the stars of the future and I’m delighted that we will once again have 6,500 taking part in what is sure to be a weekend of world-class sport.”
Meanwhile, the general entry ballot for the GNR closes on February 8 at midday. To enter, visit www.greatrun.org/north.
