A TOTAL of 41 rowers from Hexham's Queen Elizabeth High School competed in the 50km Lincoln to Boston Marathon.

With restricted entry conditions some had to row in a higher age category, pitching them against their older teammates, but all 12 crews completed the course with four QE crews winning their category.

James Scott continued the school's success in the J18 single as he completed the course in four hours and 31 minutes, an excellent time as he usually competes in a crew boat.

The J18 boys' coxless quad of Robbie Langford, Tom Archer, Tom Smith and Christian Chomse also won their category in a time of 3:45, ahead of Worcester Rowing Club and Tyne United.

The winning J16 girls' coxless quad of Imogen Wade, Isobel Maxwell-Gray, Susie Oliver and Olivia Holtham completed the course in 4:28 in their first event as a coxless crew.

Limitations of available boats meant that the J16 boys' crew of Tom Ludman, Tom Mawson, Abe Parkin and Andrew Howard with cox Ryan Marsden had to row in the coxed event, which they won in 4:17.

Meanwhile, Ben Wilkinson, due to a late injury in his intended crew, took on the challenge in a single scull and his time of 5:06 was an impressive one, and was even side-by-side by Olympic champion James Cracknell, who set a new record, at one point!
