MEMBERS of One Life Racing triathlon club, both young and old, showed their sporting side by raising funds in the name of a junior at a rival club.

The Hexham-based club organised a fundraising challenge for the Children‘s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF), at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital, after learning that a young member of Alnwick Tri Club was due to undergo open heart surgery there.

To support the unit, juniors at Alnwick had arranged to undertake a five hour swim, bike and run challenge.

And One Life members decided to show their support by holding a similar activity on the same weekend at Hexham’s Wentworth Leisure Centre.

The club’s juniors swam for 15 minutes to see how much distance they could cover in the pool.

They then cycled around the track for 15 minutes before running around the track for the same length of time.

The adults got involved too and took part in a session on the spin bikes, ran by Kate Charlton, to see who could clock up the longest distance.

As a result of their endeavours, the club raised around £500 for CHUF.
