TWO victories in the space of a week sent Matfen Senators to the top of Division Two.

They started with a comprehensive 8-2 triumph over Cramlington Trojans, Alex Holliday leading the way by winning all three of his games.

He also teamed up with David Swan to earn doubles glory, Swan and Stephen Oxley playing key roles by winning two games each.

Matfen didn’t have it so easy when they travelled to Birtley, though, edging through 6-4.

Holliday again was on song with three wins and the all-important doubles victory with Swan, who again won two games to ensure the victory for the visitors.

Club counterparts Matfen Tribunes were on the wrong end of a slender 6-4 scoreline, going down at Byker C despite Keith Hodges winning two games and John Henderson and Nigel Tree one apiece.

Matfen Centurions endured a mixed week as they won one game 6-4, but lost the other by the same scoreline.

Their victory came at home to Byker B with Chris Kilsby and Malcolm Aitchison winning two games each and Hodges one. Kilsby and Philip Rainford then won the doubles contest.

Kilsby again won two games, along with the doubles with Rainford, and Aitchison won one game, but it was not enough for the victory as they lost to Cramlington Reivers.

Julian Manuel and Raymond Lazareto secured consolation points for Newton C in Division Four as they lost 8-2 to Cramlington Ravens.

Riding Mill A remain in eight spot in the Premier Division despite not being in action this week, while Newton C are fifth in Division Four.
