WITH 160 competitors, a charity golf event at Prudhoe raised more than £2,000.

Member Larry Hindmarsh organised an event for cancer charity Daft as a Brush, with 40 teams signed up for the four ball, Texas scramble competition.

Among the teams, there were six all-female line-ups and several mixed squads.

A team comprising of members from Whickham and Wynyard claimed victory with 55.8 points, and Prudhoe's team of P. Whitlock, J. Reid, B. Murray and P. Watson were denied the runner-up spot by a Prudhoe and Eaglescliffe composite team after both carded 57.3

The best ladies' team came from Tyneside.

Another big charity event is planned at Prudhoe as the Rotary Club of Tynedale's annual golf day will return on Friday, September 8.

The event, which raises funds for the Great North Air Ambulance Service, has been a mainstay for 25 years, and the Rotary Club's Tom Kelsey is looking forward to building on the impressive £4,000 raised 12 months ago.

In addition to the usual team and individual prizes, there will be three exciting sub-matches, involving Prudhoe Veterans teams, four Garwen teams, and five teams from Williamson Construction Equipment, which will compete amongst themselves for a salver and medallions.

Sponsorship this year will be provided by Patricia Arnold Accountants, Dodd's Funeral Services, Handelsbanken, PCC Systems, Fentimans Ltd, Louise Hunter & Associates, Doody & Sons and Arnold Clark.

A meal will be served after the round, while a separate evening presentation will take place.
