A MISSED penalty stroke late on denied Tynedale’s first team a point against Stokesley.

The Hexham side competed well and had a chance to draw level at the death when Henry Thompson’s drag flick found an opponent’s foot on the line for a penalty stroke to be awarded.

Rob Porter was unable to beat the goalkeeper though, and Tynedale went down to the only goal of the game.

Tyne started the contest well with Tom Cant forcing a good save, and they stayed on the front foot although were denied a penalty stroke when Thompson’s flicked shot hit a defender’s foot.

Stokesley started to grow into the game and looked dangerous on the break, but goalkeeper Mark Blatherwick continued his good form with a number of good saves to keep it goalless at the break.

But the away side re-emerged on top and finally found a way through Tynedale’s resolute defence, a visiting player left free to tap in at the back post.

Tynedale II were celebrating a late goal, meanwhile, as teenager Tom Scott produced a late leveller to tie the game at Richmond 2-2.

In the last seconds of the game, Sam Bush’s run down the wing created a chance for Scott to tap home and earn his side a point.

The team were looking to bounce back from the previous week’s disappointing defeat, but Richmond finally beat goalkeeper Paddy Lally before the break after the youngster kept them out on numerous occasions.

Tynedale responded well and equalised courtesy of Andy Johnson, but Richmond looked to have nicked it when they regained the lead with just five minutes remaining until Scott popped up late on.

Mark Friswell was Tyendale III’s hero as he spearheaded the newly formed team to a first win. In a man of the match display, he scored all four goals in the 4-0 victory at Stokesley III as the newcomers dominated.

Tynedale Ladies were big winners too as they put 13 without reply past the newly formed Newcastle Medics III.

They dominated from the start and were seven goals to the good by half time, Esme Gallagher getting the ball rolling in the opening minutes.

Te goals continued to pour in with player of the match Iona Hextall scoring four, Sarah Martindale three, Sue Crawford and Sophie Mitchell two each and Alison Westworth the other as Tynedale jumped to third in the table.
