EUROPEAN Tour professional Chris Paisley’s fantastic end to the season continued as he clinched fifth in the Portugal Masters.

He rose to 69th in the Race to Dubai rankings as a result of the great weekend of golf, which saw him in contention for the tournament title at one stage.

His weekend got off to a flying start with a -6 opening round of 65, quickly followed by a 67 to go into the final two rounds on -10.

Going into round three full of confidence, a second 65 saw him put the pressure on the leaders and he was just two strokes off top spot.

Similarly to his opening two rounds, he followed up the 65 score with 67 to finish tied fifth on a brilliant score of -20, three shots off winner Padraig Harrington.

The performance earned him 66,200 euros and the same amount of Race to Dubai points, seeing him miss out on the desired top 60 by just nine places.

A fantastic string of performances means that the former Stocksfield junior and Prudhoe High School pupil will play European Tour golf again in 2017, with an appearance at the British Masters at Close House, Heddon-on-the-Wall, to look forward to in September.
