CRAMP during a gruelling round of the Junior National Road Race set in for a teenage cyclist from Tynedale.

Talented rider Fergus Robinson (18) was third in the latest round of the prestigious series, held at the Oliver’s Mount circuit in Scarborough, when he experienced the pain in his calves.

It throw him off his stride and saw him finish down in 14th by the time he finished the line, which is still a great performance from the 70 plus juniors racing.

The Scarborough route was a particularly tough one as participants had the unenviable task of climbing Oliver’s Mount a total of 12 times, the challenge accounting for much of the field.

Allen Valley Velo member Fergus, who is heading to Leeds University, is currently well within the top half of the standings as the series comes to a close with the Junior Tour of Wales this weekend.

It was the second highest finish of the series for Fergus after clinching ninth in the Tour of the Mendips, in Bristol, in April.
