ANOTHER golfing star from Hexham may have been unearthed.

For 14-year-old Joseph Robson has been called up into the six-man North of England U16 squad.

The club has a good history of producing talented golfers, the latest being England youth international Matty Lamb.

Also showing great promise is the team of Owen Robson, Finn McKendrick and Will Shrimpton who, after winning the county qualifier at Bedlington in June, represented Northumberland at the England Junior Champion Club tournament at Frilford Heath.

They combined well to clinch 15th from the 33 competing teams.

Back at the club, the Bates Trophy was won by Stephen Brown with a two round nett score of 135. Ian Pickering (138) was second and Jamie Brown (139) third.

The ladies‘ MacMillan Cancer Support competion was won by Jennifer Banks (42), as she just pipped Jane Bradley (42) on countback. Christine Forster (39) was third.

Carol Mortimore (39) won the Silver Division of the Lady Presidents Day ahead of Sue Shaw Toomey (30) and Christine Forster (28).

The Bronze Division (handicaps 21-28) was won by Judy Hall (28) with Joan Dinning (26) in second and Lynne Cunliffe (26) third. Judy Oakley (31) won the Bronze Division (handicaps 29-36) with Sheila Bell (31) a close second and Moira Tait (26) in third.

The Senior Salver was won by Yvonne Reekie (73-16-59), with Judy Oakley (83-23-60) settling for second.

Laura Johnson (86-12-74) was triumphant in the Silver Division of the latest medal ahead of Val Robinson (88-10-78) and Marie Browne (88-10-78). The Bronze Division was won by Joan Dinning (107-26-81), with Jill Waddington (118-35-83) and Lindsay Cunliffe (111-28-83) making up the top three.

Keeping up her winning streak, Barbara Younger enjoyed another victory in the Tynedale ladies‘ section.

In her most recent outings, she lifted both the Evans Trophy and the September Medal as she hits a real purple patch.

Her score of 33 stableford points was five better than runner-up Rita Barber (28) while Sheila Newman (21) claimed third place.

While Barbara won the latest medal, captain Anne Brown was victorious in the domestic medal handicap competition and Jenny Hughes won the nine hole qualifier.

Having come close on a number of occasions, Alan Nelson (39) went one better to claim glory in the Jack Welch Tankard. He was followed by Dennis Orridge (38) and John Glenwright (38) who were only separated by countback.

With the lowest gross score, Dom Rapier (77-5-72) won the latest medal championship qualifier at Bellingham . In second was Brian Hardon (84-12-72) with David Dunn (80-7-73) in third.

Tony Anderson (41) won the Telfer Memorial Trophy with David Scott (40) and Bob Simpson (39) making up the top three.

The ladies’ stableford competition was won by Jane H. Jones (38) with Pat Hignett (33) in second and Di Hutchinson (31) third.

Steven Batey and Richard Byers (43) won the Autumn Pairs contest at Haltwhistle ahead of Peter Mould and Steven Armstong (43) and Richard Gibson and Stuart Caisley (42).
