PADDLERS from far and wide signed up to take in a stretch of the River Tyne.

Hexham Canoe Club held a second national ranked slalom event for divisions 2, 3 and 4 on the water at Wark, with a total number of 53 entries.

While the host club was well represented, there were also visitors from Aberdeen and Forth in Scotland, Mold in Wales, and Bradford and Manchester.

With the kind permission of Wark Angling Club, Wark Sports Club and local landowner Bill Weightman, the club were able to add to the popular James Harrison Memorial event it holds on the Tyne earlier in the year.

Club member Lorraine Glendenning said: "For a first time event and with something similar on further down the country, we have done really well to get so many people there."

Hexham Canoe Club members Ryan Dodd (12) and Cameron Daly recorded great times in the C1 class, and were in the top five of the K1 men's Division Three event alongside clubmate Eddie MacIntosh (12).

David Glendenning returned to the Division Two in K1 as he gained promotion to the higher division.

Bryony Agar was promoted to Division One, while Chloe Glendenning and Ryan performed together in the C2.
