MEMBERS of Hexham Rowing Club will show off a brand new boat when it hosts the annual Hexham Regatta.

Held next Saturday, the local event draws in hundreds of rowers from across the North and further afield in what is typically a big day for the town.

And the host club has recently taken stock of a junior wintech which will help the youth section continue to grown.

With £10,000 from Sport England’s Small Grants scheme to go with money raised by members, the club were in a position to purchase the equipment which will increase the amount of time young members can spend on the water.

It also provides the opportunity for juniors to be racing in boats the correct weight to enhance performance and success at the local regattas and national school events.

The juniors at Hexham have already tasted success this year with great performances at the recent Durham City Regatta.

There was double success for Oliver Slipman as he was joined by Matt Irwin in the triumphant elite pair, while he also went on to claim the glory with teammate Jack Curtis in the J16 double.

The girls’ matched the boys in the J16 double, Chloe Slipman and Tabitha BarrassBarker winning their event.

Julia Gledson and Georgia Cohen kept up the winning run in the WJ15 double

Meanwhile, the team of Hayley Hannant, Toni-Louise Brown, Kristen Armes-Reardon, cox Ishbel Speirs, joined by Queen Elizabeth High School member Katie Chomse for glory in the WJ13 coxed quad.

The seniors at Hexham also excelled, Kevin Oates winning the masters single and the duo of Giuseppe Ferrari and Stuart Mullan triumphing in the masters double.
