SIX Tynedale athletes have been named in Northumberland’s provisional squad for the English Schools Athletics Association Track and Field final.

With excellent performances throughout the year, local athletes have earned their place in the team which will travel to the Alexander Stadium, in Birmingham, on July 7 and 8.

Double northern champion sprinter Lewis Cant is joined by double runner-up Josh McKeown in the junior boys category, with Alex Wood and Michael Furness representing the intermediate boys.

Max Pearson, who won bronze in last year’s national final, is in the senior boys team, with Robyn Bennett the sole girl from the district in the senior class.

Tynedale Harriers’ impressive 800m runner Dan Joyce has gained selection to the Durham team.
