The Corbridge-based chess team won 3-2 with thanks to an excellent, if rather lucky, win on top board by Klauss Mosnegutu against Roger Coathup and on Board Five by Derek Blair.
Draws from Mariana Mosnegutu, Tim Wrigley and a narrow loss on time by Peter Crichton secured the points.
Tynedale Reivers, however, were whitewashed in their League Two match against Gateshead with Derek Blair, Alex Ashworth, Steve Larkin, Phil Taylor and Dave Foster jnr all losing.
Meanwhile, in the South Tyne League which employs a handicap system, Tynedale Angels lost 26–21 against Carlisle Friars despite wins by David Wrigley and Alex Ashworth.
The latter currently leads Tynedale‘s Club Championship with Mariana Mosnegutu and Peter Crichton next up.
