RIDING Mill A finished the season eighth in the Premier Division after a mixed final week.

A heavy 8-2 defeat to Cramlington Stingers was swiftly followed by a 6-4 triumph over Old England Jacks as they brought their season to a close.

Peter Stempzyk and Andrew Firth both claimed two wins, and victory in the doubles, against Jacks, with John Williamson’s win in the singles proving vital too.

It was a much improved team performance from the game with Cramlington, Williamson and Geoff Salter earning Mill consolation points.

Sixth spot in Division One was secured by Riding Mill B as they ended their campaign by beating Byker B 6-4.

Firth was on top form as he won all three of his games, with Shirley Gelder winning two and Maurice Cheek one.

A 10-0 defeat to Division Two runners-up Old England Crocks prevented Matfen Tribunes from moving up from second bottom.

And Matfen Whitley Chapel lost by the same scoreline as they forfeited their Division Three game to champions Brandon Anacondas.

But it was club counterparts Matfen Cohorts who finished bottom of the division as they went down 8-2 to Byker D, Richard Rayfield and David Crompton earning their points.
